Crown lengthening
This lady didn’t like the appearance of her smile because she felt that she showed too much of her gums. Dr Sharpe used a crown lengthening procedure to carefully remove some of the gum tissue from around her upper teeth. A total of ten teeth were treated in a single appointment under local anaesthetic to reduce the amount of gum tissue on show.
Soft tissue graft
This patient had a significant area of gum recession around one of his lower front teeth. This had been getting worse for several months and the tooth was becoming very sensitive. The patient didn’t like the way that it looked because part of the root was showing underneath the gum. Dr Sharpe used a soft tissue graft of healthy gum to cover the exposed root.
Single tooth implant
This patient suffered a blow to his upper jaw during a football game and lost one of his upper front teeth. He also had a small tooth on the opposite side of his mouth that the patient didn’t like. Dr Sharpe restored the missing tooth with an implant crown and used composite bonding techniques to improve the shape of the small tooth on the opposite side. A dental implant provides a fixed replacement for the missing tooth without damaging any of the other healthy teeth in this case.
