Direct Dental Bonding
Bonding is the use of a direct tooth coloured filing material to improve the strength and appearance of teeth.
Dental bonding is a technique that can improve the smile in a single visit. The process involves the careful build up of dental composite, which is a mouldable material that is sculpted before being set with a curing light.

The material can then be polished and finished to high shine, to match the surrounding tooth substance. Bonding can be used for a variety of cosmetic improvements such as:
- Repairing chipped or broken teeth
- Improve the appearance of dark or discoloured teeth
- Close spaces between teeth
- Make teeth look longer
- Change the shape of teeth
- Protect and cover the exposed portion of the root in gum recession.
The procedure for direct dental bonding
The surface of the tooth will be roughened and an etching liquid applied. These procedures help the bonding material bond to the tooth. The tooth-coloured, putty-like resin is then applied, moulded, and smoothed to the desired shape. A light is then used to harden the material. After the material is hardened, it is trimed, shaped, and polished it to match the shine of the rest of the tooth surface.
Although Dental Bonding can be used for a number of situations, the main drawbacks of bonding is that it is not as strong long-term as other restorative materials such as ceramic or porcelain, and it has a tendency to stain.
